In 2016, we watched, horrified, as a qualified woman lost the U.S. Presidential election to an unqualified rotten excuse for a human being who bragged about assaulting women, was credibly accused of assault and rape, and who promised to ban abortion – and that doesn’t even begin to address his scapegoating of immigrants, his race-baiting, his relationship with white supremacists and his hostility towards civil rights. It was… unthinkable. And remarkably, there were people who insisted Hillary Clinton’s loss had nothing to do with her gender.

This is the double edged sword of sexism and misogyny. It exists and impacts lives, and yet so many people deny it exists so that we have to expend endless time and energy stating the obvious.

Satire is one way to do that. Here’s a selection of the satire I wrote during those four years. As I published these pieces, many women – and a few men as well – reached out to thank me for writing them, for giving voice to their own anger and frustration, and for helping make sense of the shitshow.
